The Objects and Purposes of Soroptimism
The objects of SI are to act as a global voice for women through awareness, advocacy and action and to strive for:-
- the advancement of the status of women
- high ethical standards
- human rights for all
- equality, development and peace
The purposes of SI are to
- unite Soroptimist Federations throughout the world
- co-operate with inter-governmental and other organisations for the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace
- promote the objects of Soroptimism throughout the world

Programme Action
We call our voluntary work and our work for service projects ‘Programme Action’. Programme Action is the reason for being a Soroptimist. It reflects the Vision and the Mission of Soroptimist International.
SI Durham’s ongoing service projects include St. Cuthbert’s Hospice Coffee Shop, support for the County Durham Women’s Refuges, and the provision of New Start Bags for trafficked women to Durham Police. Other initiatives are decided on a yearly basis.
