President Claire’s address April 2026

As we start a new year for Soroptimist International Guernsey, it’s good to reflect on the past year.  We have had a fantastic year under Sue’s leadership.  Please join me in thanking her for working tirelessly and leading our Club into the good place we have reached today.

What a privilege it is to be in the driving seat of this wonderful Club, with a membership of generous and industrious people.

I’m planning to attend the SIGBE Annual Conference in Cardiff at the end of October, and would be pleased if any other members feel able to join me.

There will be a couple of differences in the coming year, but most of our activities will generally follow the usual format.  There are two important documents to share with our members at this AGM, they are the membership Code of Conduct and Safeguarding document, which we’ll circulate by email for you to read at home.

For the President’s charity this year, I have chosen the Guernsey Bereavement Service for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, it’s a charity close to my heart and secondly they do excellent work, getting alongside people through their time of grief and loss.  Guernsey Bereavement Service doesn’t have as high a profile in the Island as some charities.  Once people have been supported by the bereavement counsellors, there is a tendency to keep quiet about it.

However, I’m looking forward to the Liberation Tea party for our older adult friends that’ll be happening in May.  Also the annual quiz in the autumn and our Club building on the success of last year’s 16 days of activism for the elimination of gender based violence with Orange the World.

As there won’t be a friendship weekend this year, I’m hoping we can support the SI Jersey Friendship weekend in September.  They’ll be further details nearer the time.

So many members of our Club play their part and make our fundraising, project action and social events successful.  Thank you for all you do.  Here’s to a fabulous year for SI Guernsey.
