The Club is delighted that we have been selected to create a little bit of Meru in Yorkshire to raise awareness about the Meru Womens Garden Project.  We are busy planning and growing vegetable for the garden and gaining a real insight into the Meru Project. St Peter’s Church Refreshment Day raises £650 for Club Charities

A very busy day yielded fantastic results withjust over £650 to share between the Harrogate Women’s Refuge and our ongoing project with Soroptimist International of Pretoria Tshwane. Harrogate Women’s Refuge Project –  Club Members are actively involved in giving service and fund raising to improve the environent for the women and their families who are having to seek refuge from domestic abuse. The Club has already improved the art room, replace curtains and is currently aiming to raise sufficient money to make the childrens outside play area safe again.

President Sue Williams was delighted to attend the award ceremony for the Wetherby Shop Window Competition held on the 17th December in Wetherby Town Hall. Sue presented the Winner’s Certificate to the volunteers from the Cheshire Homes Charity Shop. The Soroptimist International of Harrogate and District Charity Shop Window competition took place on the 26th November using Innovation, Impact and the Spirit of Christmas as the judging criteria. Spirit of Christmas celebrates Charity Shop Windows

Charity Shop Windows throughout Harrogate and District sparkled with Christmas Spirit in the Club’s annual Charity Shop Window Competition. This year the Club widened its horizons to include Charity shops in Boroughbridge, Knaresborough, Ripon, Starbeck and Wetherby as well as Harrogate.  The Club initiated the Harrogate Shop window competition in 2004 as part of their Light up Harrogate campaign. Over 40 shops were visited on the 26th November. The area was divided into 4 zones. Harrogate, Knaresborough with Starbeck, Ripon with Boroughbridge and Wetherby. Each zone has  a Winner and a Highly commended. An overall winner is presented with the Soroptimist Shop Window Competition Cup. We are delighted to announce the winners and highly commended are: Harrogate; Winner, Save the Children, Highly Commended, Scope Knaresborough with Starbeck; Winner, Age UK, Knaresborough, Highly Commended, St Michaels, Starbeck Ripon with Boroughbridge; Winner, OXFAM, Boroughbridge, Highly Commended, YMCA,

Club Event raises over £360 for Club Charity Fund

Club Event raises over £360 for Club Charity Fund

Club members had a very busy time on the 18th July when we held a Coffee Morning and Light Lunch and Bric-a-Brac stall event at the Wesley Chapel, Oxford Street  in Harrogate. The money is  for the Club’s Charity Fund so we can continue to make a difference to the lives of women and children, globally and locally. Some of the charities and causes we  have or continue to support from this Fund include: Age UK,  Alzheimer’s Society, British Heart Foundation, British Legion Poppy Appeal (we lay wreaths on the main memorials throughout the district on Remembrance Sunday), Carers Resource, Citizens Advice Bureau, Harrogate at Christmas, Harrogate Homeless Hostel, Martin House Hospice, St Michael’s Hospice, Women’s Refuge and Yorkshire Cancer Research We also have specific fund raising events for specific charities and organisations such as Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, Our Angels, See Solar,
