SI King’s Lynn celebrates 45 years

Soroptimist International of King’s Lynn is celebrating the 45th anniversary of the club’s Charter this month, marking the 45 years they have spent in the town.

Determined that celebrations should go ahead in these challenging times, the club held a zoom celebration, drinking a toast to the club and the two members who have been members since the club’s inception – Dr Elizabeth Harrison and the inaugural President, Pat Robinson.

The zoom celebration replaced the annual Charter Lunch. President Julie Williams hosted the meeting, with members reflecting on their lives as Soroptimists and the friendships they have made while working on projects that improve the lives of women and girls in the UK and further afield.

Earlier this year, retired GP Dr Elizabeth Harrison was awarded Honorary Membership in recognition of her exceptional contribution to the club and the wider Soroptimist organisation. During the zoom meeting, Dr Harrison was presented with a painting of her home and a certificate marking 45 years of service.

Soroptimist International of King’s Lynn Club President Julie Williams commented: “it was an honour to present Elizabeth with the Honorary Membership earlier this year. We were keen to present Elizabeth with something to mark the occasion”.

Club members are looking forward to meeting face to face as soon as possible, and in the meantime are marking 45 years in different ways – President Julie Williams walked 45 kilometres last week, one member has made 45 face masks, another has presented a virtual bouquet of 45 flowers.  There are more details of the activities to mark 45 years on the club website at  https://sigbi.org/kings-lynn/2020-21-events/
