Meet Our 2026-27 President, Sandra

As I begin my second year as President of SI Lancaster I cannot believe how quickly time is rushing past.

In the Autumn of 2019 a friend invited me along to a social event that SI Lancaster were holding to introduce people to Soroptimism. I enjoyed the event, and agreed to attend the next event they were planning to hold in the Spring of 2020. Well we all know what happened then, and the Club went into Zoom mode with everyone staying at home. Roll forward about 16 months and my friend invited me to afternoon tea in her lovely garden, the members were looking forward to getting together, so along I went.

By the Autumn I was a member and now almost 5 years later I’ve been to the SIGBI conference, 3 regional conferences and lots of events. I chose E2M as my first President’s charity of the year this a local Lancaster based charity which works with young people trying to encourage them away from phones and other electronic devices and try something new, whether it be crafts, circus’s skills, film making or whatever. As a newly retired teacher this was a cause close to my heart, having spent all my career with 11-18 year olds. I am delighted that my charity for this year is NWAA, again an important cause for me as living in a rural community we often rely on the air ambulance to get people to hospital quickly.

I hope the members of my club realise how much I appreciate them, they have become new friends and given my retirement a real sense of purpose.

Sandra
