Midland Chase Clubs Take Home Prizes & Recognition

Celebrating Success

Midland Chase Clubs Take Home Prizes…In the heart of the Midlands, the clubs of Soroptimist International (SI) Midland Chase continue to go from strength to strength — and their recent achievements are a testament to that passion, dedication, and community spirit. From reading projects to anti violence against women & girls to environmental initiatives – there’s plenty to celebrate across the region!

SI Cannock & District

Beverley Ricketts founder of Rotary Books4Home. Alumni 1210: The Alumni Association of Rotary District 1210 joined the club’s November meeting to celebrate the fact that the number of books now donated to this fabulous charity passed 50,000, in fact it is now 52,620!
Beverley outlined the importance of continuing to distribute children’s books via schools to children who would not otherwise have a book of their own. The project is now giving books to prisons which gives the opportunity for prisoners to read to their children during visits and during phone calls which gives the opportunity for family bonding. Many clubs in our Region have collected books on behalf of this project – turbo-charging its impact.
Beverley then presented the club with a Rotary International Paul Harris Certificate of Appreciation for our support for this project. This is the highest award that Rotary International can give to an external organisation!

SI The Wrekin

On behalf of Soroptimist International, SI The Wrekin’s outstanding project, “Sabrina – River Severn Environmental Project” was selected in November as an exemplary initiative and included in SI’s “Improving Our Environment” Compilation Movie.

Back in June Soroptimist International President Siew Yong requested short video clips on projects which Clubs had initiated and worked on relative to mitigating climate change or improving the environment.  Project Sabrina was already famous within our Region for its visionary and challenging aims to highlight the plight of England’s longest river and the pollution and misuse it suffers. Club members and their friends and family had embarked on a 2020 mile adventure tracing the River Severn from its source in the Plynlimon hills to its mouth at the Severn Estuary.  They walked, cycled or steam trained the length of the river using their hand made, litter-collecting salmon – “Sabrina”, to engage with the public and media. They also carried out water testing at strategic points to reinforce their message with “science”.  Through this project, they aimed to raise awareness and inspire action to protect our precious waterways.

You can see more photos here.

SI collated the clips into a longer film showing the impact of Soroptimists on Climate Change, which was released on 24 October 2025, International Day of Climate Change.
