In 2015 MK Community Foundation made a grant to SI Milton Keynes to help us start up a women’s branch in MK. In June 2021, we are six years old and now a well-established and flourishing group providing significant financial and in-kind support to a range of organisations across MK; including supporting MK ACT, YMCA, MK British Red Cross, Works for Us and the MK Winter Night Shelter. With 15 active members and growing fast. We are now recognised as a progressive branch within the UK and within the global network of soroptimists; SIGBI (Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland) along with the International Federation NGO’s with our work contributing directly to the United Nations Sustainability Goals.
Chair of SI Milton Keynes Amanda Carter-Philpott thanked the Community Foundation and said;
“It is with absolute pride and pleasure that SI Milton Keynes are now able make a donation of £200, our original £180 grant plus interest, back to the Community Foundation having had the kick start to get going back in 2015. Bringing this full circle and ‘paying back’ the support and faith you had in us. We hope to make another donation in the future.” The money will contribute to the Women’s Fund which is used to support projects which help women and girls in MK.
“MKSI adapted to Covid and carried on supporting our link charities, added an additional charity and even managed some fundraising! Looking forward to a busy 2021 and so glad we are able to give back to the community in this way via the Community Foundation”.
Angela Novell, Programme Action Officer and Founder President of SI Milton Keynes presented the cheque to June Oldroyd, Philanthropy Director, MK Community Foundation.
