ReCycle and ReUse Project

Our project ReCycle and Reuse began as a way to keep items out of the refuse system to help our Planet. We started collecting crisp packets which went to Macclesfield Crisp Blankets to be made into bags which sleeping bags can go into, keeping the occupants warm and dry.
We collected plastic milk bottle tops which are made into garden furniture and we collected empty blister packs which SuperDrug would send to Terra cycle for recycling.
After promoting the project at various events, it grew quickly and we partnered with some local churches who collect on our behalf. In 12 months we had collected over 12,000 crisp packets and the number grows each month.
Other items were added including coffee machine Pods which go for recycling through the PodBack scheme and soft plastics which are taken to local supermarkets.
In relation to ReUse, this includes spectacles and tools which go to Africa, prom dresses which a local women’s charity take to local schools and sell for a nominal fee, and good quality clothes which were part of a pop-up shop to raise funds for Motherwell Cheshire.
The project is ongoing – any ideas for other items which can be included would be gratefully received, and if you are interested in helping us please contact us through our website.
