Volunteer Week

It’s Volunteers’ Week

Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity where an individual or group freely gives time “to benefit another person, group or organization”. Volunteering is also renowned for skill development and is often intended to promote goodness or to improve human quality of life

Or so Wikipedia says!

As Soroptimists– it’s what we do.  It is our main reason for being a member of the organisation.  It’s our project work.

But – many of us beaver away doing other activities that are not involved with being a member of the club.  Giving our time and skills, ‘putting something back’.

What do we do?

Some of the organisations and charities our members are involved with are:

Life Education, Osteoporosis, Save the Children, Partners in Education Swaziland (PIES), Miles of Smiles, The Friendship Foundation, St Catherine’s Hospice,  RNLI, Help Tibet……………….  We fundraise, bake cakes, send emails, make phone calls, do accounts, administer websites,  attend meetings, serve tea (and cakes!), clean and tidy, help customers and so on and on and on. Then there’s the Mother’s Union secretaries, Friends of the Church and the local library. The list goes on.   We do what is asked and needed at the time.

How many hours do we give?

Who knows ? But I bet if we add them up it would be more than ‘just a few’.

Does this sound like you?  A volunteer by nature.  If it sounds like you the you could be our kind of gal so why contact us to find out more about being a Soroptimist.
