International Eisteddfod 2022 – Thursday 7th July until Sunday 10th July
Each year Soroptimists from Clubs throughout the Region enjoy running the Friendship and Information Centre at the prestigious Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.
This year is the 75th Anniversary of the Eisteddfod which dates back to 1947, when the first event was held in this little Welsh town. The concept was the promotion of peace following the second World War. Today musicians and dancers come to Llangollen from all over the world to participate in the various competitions.
The Region sponsors a Young peoples Choir each year, this year – The Choir of E.Mikeladze Central Music School’ from Georgia. We were all absolutely delighted when “Our Choir” came third, they were wonderful and received a fabulous adjudication”.

Report written by Karen Webb
It was quiet during our morning duty, we had only a few visitor’s Larraine Robinson was ‘front of house’ trying to convince people they really needed a bag, scarf or piece of jewellery, she was very successful. Lesley Corfield missed the photo but also did her bit front of house. Pat Mercer and I were making drinks, both being ex Guiders we felt at home with a water tap, bucket for ‘slops’ and limited space😂
I haven’t been to the Eisteddfod before during the day but expected there to be more going on; I think, from what others said, many trade stalls had not come along. Perhaps some days are busier than others but apart from school groups there didn’t seem to be as many people as usual. We didn’t go into the main marquee so perhaps everyone in attendance were in there.
When we went back to the tent to collect our bags around 3.40pm the choir we sponsor were visiting the tent, we sadly missed them singing but have seen it on the Region Cheshire North Wales & Wirral Facebook page.
It was extremely hot, as ever a special location.
