Some pictures from the SIGBI Conference in Liverpool, October 2018. Six members of SI Scarborough attended along with 1000+ delegates all over the world. Wonderful and diverse speakers, inspiring Programme Action reports and joyful Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
At the September Regional Council Meeting, there was also a new bursary, given by SI Leeds, The Mair Pinnell Bursary, to the newest member of SI Yorkshire to attend the SIGBI Conference. This year it was won by a member of SI Scarborough, Lisa Davis.
At the October Meeting, we listened to a presentation from Janice Gwilliam from the Leeds based charity, LASSN (Leeds Asylum Seekers Support Network). Janice attends a church in Malton with our member, Helen Hyams. It was a surprise when another member, Rita Leaman, found out who the speaker was. She and Janice had attended the same West London school in the 1950s/60s.
In September, we had a presentation from Drs Alistair and Margaret Robertson of Jacob’s Well Appeal, Beverley, East Yorkshire. jacobswellappeal.org This charity is one of the charities that SI Scarborough support. The connection with the club is that one of our members, Helen Hyams, has visited the project in Ghana on several occassions. As a retired paediatric physiotherapist, Helen has leant how to make furniture out of cardboard, to help support children with cerebral palsy. Drs Alistair and Margaret gave us a presentation about all the different projects that have been undertaken in over 30 countries since 1984.
