Knitted with Love is a campaign run by Hamlin Fistula Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia which aims to provide blankets for women who come to the hospital for treatment. Many women in Ethiopia experience devastating injuries as a result of childbirth caused by a lack of appropriate care. Receiving a blanket helps women to know we care and is a beautiful and effective way to support them on their journey to full recovery, one that frequently requires extensive surgery. As any woman will tell you blankets can bring a degree of comfort – hence the term ‘comfort blanket,’ especially when we are in pain, we are grieving or perhaps anxious about something. EVA Women’s Aid is a multi-award-winning Charity providing specialist support for victims/survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. Based in Redcar, EVA offers a range of first-class services including accommodation in three Safe House properties for women fleeing abuse and seven, self-contained Move On flats. Two of EVA’s Safe Houses have a ground floor bedroom with disabled access en-suite bathroom. As a well- established independent Charity with 38 years’ experience, EVA Women’s Aid relies entirely on grant funding, donations and their own fundraising efforts. CEO Richinda Taylor said: “We are very grateful that SI Scarborough supports us, not only with financial donations but by collecting toiletries and other items that we are able to give to the women we support. Soroptimist International (SI) encourages all club members to undertake and report on project work they have undertaken during the year. These projects form part of a much larger endeavour called Programme Action. All clubs use the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to develop their projects as well as the key themes of the SI Educate, Empower, Enable programme, and through networking and via the SI website, inform others of what they have accomplished. All those who undertake such projects are invited to apply for an award. Known as Best Practice Awards, the aim of these awards is to recognise the amazing work all our members do in helping to make the world a better place for women and girls, and whilst there is always a winner, every club has in some small or bigger way contributed to creating a world in which we are
