Jackie Paling

With deep regret we have to record that Jackie died in Wexham Park Hospital on Tuesday 14th April.  Jackie had been a club member since 1986 and will be remembered for her enthusiastic embrace of all things Soroptimist.  Jackie had friends in many clubs in the UK and overseas.  She was a regular at Federation and International conferences.  Jackie made many visits to Afghanistan and undertook craft classes whilst there; she also organised collecting unwanted sewing machines and had them sent to a women’s group near Kabul.  Jackie had degrees in chemistry and engineering.  She came to Slough from her home town of Darlington to take up an engineering post with British Gas.

When she wasn’t involved in projects to improve the lives of women and girls,  Jackie found time to cook and in particular to make wonderful cakes with beautiful icing.  Birthday cakes, Wedding cakes, anniversary cakes – they were all little (and sometimes very large) works of art.

Jackie was simply an amazing and unique woman who none of us will ever forget.
