Trauma teddies on their way to Ukraine with Fire Engine convoy

A request was made on 21 April by Jo from Kent Fire and Rescue to Sally at SIGBI Office for trauma teddies.

She said ‘ You may have seen on the media that the UK Fire and Rescue Service has been sending decommissioned fire engines and equipment out to Ukraine via Poland. A second convoy left on 21 April from Ashford fire station in Kent. See article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-61177735

A third convoy is due to leave at the beginning of May. We’d love to be able to include some trauma teddies and wondered if this is something your members might be able to help with.

This request was circulated by Carol Reed on 22 April to all the clubs across the Region.

SI Sevenoaks has been taking the lead on the Trauma Bear Centenary Challenge for the Region. They have donated all theirs to the police who are stationed at Dover and involved in greeting the Ukrainian refugees. They are handing the teddies to children when appropriate at this point in their journey.

Medway and Maidstone club and SI Folkestone therefore took up this latest challenge to provide knitted teddies to go to Ukraine. A concerted effort was needed with the knitting needles to make a reasonable number of teddies within the week.

Friends of SI Folkestone grabbed their knitting needles to support this endeavour and made 11 Trauma teddies and 2 lambs which were safely delivered to Kent Fire and Rescue.

On 29 April Jane Barnes met with Jo and handed over 33 trauma teddies as Medway and Maidstone’s contribution.  These will be going out with the third convoy leaving Ashford on 3 May.
