Cheques were presented to 2 local young women. The bursaries are to help with the expenses of their further education. Members donated packs of pants and socks for the Mens Refuge. Members supported Bosumbuddies afternoon tea. Members worked on the Library Garden in anticipation of Britain in Bloom. The Social event was a trip to Bosue Vineyard. Marie Glenys of our Friendship Link club in N Canterbury New Zealand, on holiday, joined us with her husband John. We ran a bottle tombola in aid of the Womens Refuges at the Wadebridge Vintage Fair, wearing our Ask Me why I am a Soroptimist badges. The end of the month was the League of St Austell Hospital Annual Fete and we ran a French themed raffle, other members attended the Region AGM and Friendship Weekend at Bradford on Avon.

We said goodbye to retiring Founder member Carol Richards. We hosted a Fashion show at M & Co in Bodmin. We toasted the Queen on her 90th birthday. The last cheques were handed over to Cornwall Hospice Care £3000 and Cornwall Bowel Cancer Support Group £800. Jane & Maggie handed over The Presidents Chain of Office to Wendy & Sue at the AGM on April 21. The next morning was an early start to catch the Roscoff ferry for Jane Wendy Sue & Barbara with 3 husbands to visit SI Lannion our Friendship Link Club for a long weekend. A casino night at Carlyon Bay Golf Club and presence at Bodmin Ladies Flying Club completed a busy month.

Cheques totalling £2170.00 were presented to Chris Robbins representing the Cove appeal by Presidents Jane & Maggie , Kim Rowe from Santander and Dave Bridges (birthday money). Members enjoyed a Quiz night with some obscure questions set by Presidents Jane & Maggie.  Kath Miller hosted a Soup lunch for the local bowel cancer charity.  Once again Jig & Reel provided the music  Beryl & Ken were the callers at the Barn Dance in Charlestown. A quiet month, several members enjoyed a trip to the cinema to see The Danish Girl with supper afterwards. Jean hosted the first Come Dine With Me evening of the year.

The month began with Soroptimists supporting the Christmas Lights in St Austell and holding a Chocolate Tombola stall during the first of the Late Night Shopping nights. At the December meeting cheques were presented to representatives of local charities ATAXIA, STAK and Tanya’s Courage Trust. Members were asked to supply soft toys for one of the local refuges, dozens of teddies answered the call. During the meeting Santa paid the members a visit with gift for everyone. For the first time Soroptimists joined other  organisations and decorated a tree in St Petrocs Bodmin. It was dressed of course in Soroptimist colours of white & blue with silver. 11 club members attended the SIGBI Conference in Glasgow and cheered Kay as she handed over the Region Presidents Regalia to Di Steele. Kay has been a wonderful Region President and raised the profile of Soroptimist, our club and the Region.  She certainly lived up to her motto ‘Where there is a Woman there is a way’.  Wendy stood down as Federation Councillor after 4 years in the post. Presidents Jane & Maggie arranged to be part of the Remembrance Day Parade in Glasgow’s George Square  whilst Soroptimists in St Austell laid a wreath on behalf of the club. Back Home At our November business meeting we welcomed Pauline Giles of Busom Buddies into our club as our newest member. we attended the CWRT coffee morning handing over a cheque for £100 to the Uniform Fund and 4 dressing gowns.
