Fundraiser for the SIGBI Project – Empowering Girls in Nepal

Tuesday 30th June 2020 should have seen us meeting for a club meal, but that wasn't to be, so we decided to eat together anyway, but at a distance.  If we were going to do that we might as well do something else positive. So our meal became a fundraiser for the SIGBI Project - Empowering Girls in Nepal, in partnership with ChoraChori.  The funds raised by the 12 members who ate online (along with some family members too) and through other member's donations will assist to provide security, rehabilitation, education and training for vulnerable girls in Nepal.  We had a lovely evening, socialising together after such a long time apart and hopefully we'll be able to help others too - it's a win, win situation. Women inspiring action, transforming lives.

The Staffordshire Newsletter covered some of the work which Stafford Soroptimists have been doing during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Members sourcing fabric and making scrubs for staff and carers at Merivale Dementia Care Unit. They have also been knitting hearts for patients at County Hospital in Stafford to ensure that when visiting is not an option due to Covid-19 the patients and families at least have something to hold onto.

We are supporting the following good causes, responding to the hardships caused by the lockdown to many in our communities, both here locally and overseas. Each of them have received £500 from our fundraising activities. Staffordshire Women's Aid Women in vulnerable situations are at increased risk of domestic abuse under lockdown. We have supported Staffordshire Women's Aid for many years, and we are keenly aware of the heightened need for their services at the moment. For more information on our work in helping reduce the incidence of violence against women, visit Our Projects. Rising Brook Food Bank Food banks too are essential, with so many people and families suffering the loss of income from lockdown. Rising Brook Food Bank is run by the local Baptist church, based on the Wolverhampton Road, serving the local community. DFN UK DFN workers providing Covid 19 testing in India DFN
