Members from Torquay & District SI gave up a few hours of their time on Friday 1st December to help stop hunger by joining the biggest Food Collection in Tesco Metro Torquay. They worked alongside the Paignton & Torquay Community Larders to help collect the items essential to provide emergency food parcels for people in need.
The Food Collection is a partnership between Tesco and the Trussell Trust. Tesco organised with the Community Larder to encourage customers to buy an extra item or two of food when they shop and donate it on their way out of the store. All the food donated is used locally by the Paignton and Torquay Community Larders to support people who are struggling to put food on the table.
Members volunteered to greet shoppers on their way into the Torquay Metro store in Fleet Walk and hand out a tailored shopping list showing items that the food bank needed most.
Customers were most generous with their donations ensuring no one goes hungry.
