SIWD celebrate International Women’s Day in the Centennial Year

Today Ann & Dee represent SI Weybridge & District and donate 100 Easter eggs to Walton and Hersham foodbank

#IWD 2021

Ann & Dee met with Nina and the team at Walton & Hersham Food bank today to donate 100 Easter Eggs funding by the club.

Another donation! Alexis was simply delighted to #ChooseToChallenge as a Soroptimist in presenting a cheque for £600 to North Surrey Domestic Abuse this month. Lock downs have enabled the Club to collect over £3000 to support local and international projects. Instead of ‘meeting and eating’ to enable progress we’ve zoomed in since April 2020 and instead contributed the cost of supper to a fund.

Our 2021 endeavours

We chose to challenge the UK government and to work alongside UK PAC to lobby the Secretary of State, Lords, MPs and men & women to enable massive and important changes to the UK Domestic Abuse Bill.

We provided funds for vouchers and food to two foodbanks, an incredible sum of nearing £2000 has been donated in 11 months

We continued to support two finds for young women in Pretoria to continue their training as community based teachers, this regional VIP project has a challenging time before identifying the optimal route for funding to be used effectively

We added over £600 to the SIGBI Diamond Education Fund to ensure the fund can fully support women in retraining after the impact of Covid -19.

We were so encouraged to see how the local DA service enables women to protect themselves by dealing with the challenges of abuse that this year we contributed £600 to the North Surrey DA Team to ensure progress continues in providing much needed access to support, advice, help and  advocacy.  Read more at https://www.nsdas.org.uk/how-we-can-help/

Their DA Freedom Programme – The Freedom Programme is a free domestic abuse awareness raising course. It consists of 11 sessions and aims to empower women who have experienced domestic abuse.  Each session looks at different types of abuse and the impact of the behaviour on women and children. The programme was designed and created by Pat Craven and is now run nationwide.  Please visit their website for more details.
