Soroptimism is all about international friendship. Clubs around the world are affiliated by region, by country  and by locality. In our Centennial Year the biennial ‘Friendship Exchange’ weekends have been hindered by travel restrictions. But this does not stop international Zoom exchanges, sharing of information, club successes, and personal friendships continuing. Those friendships arise because of a common interest, a shared purpose and a desire for real international understanding.  If you are new to an area and looking for a new interest or you’d like to join a local club for social contact get in touch with a club nearby and as we resume face to face meetings in September, do come along without obligation to a few meetings to see first hand what we do! We have our own Gin.. and a Residential Club in London, if you’re a woman and new to the

Someone’s birthday? An anniversary? Instead of adding to the material world why not plant a new tree in your garden or with agreement in a school hospital or public space. Soroptimists around the World are celebrating a Centennial Year and planting thousands of new trees, mango groves and woodland areas.   SI Weybridge & District are enabling a Soroptimism Centennial Tree in a newly created rest area at St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey this year. St Albans Soroptimist’s Planet Team will be mobilising the Club to “Plant Trees for a Brilliant Future” in 2021 to celebrate a century of work transforming the lives of women and girls across the globe. Even though Soroptimists can’t meet in person yet, National Tree Week is a great time for #PlantTrees planning. Soroptimists are using the time to plan our tree planting in 2021 in partnership with St Albans Friends of the Earth www.stalbansfoe.org And joining

Didier Trebucq said nearby islands including Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda could also be badly affected. He said the UN was setting up an international funding appeal. About 20,000 people have been evacuated from their homes since La Soufrière volcano began erupting last Friday. It had not previously erupted since 1979. Mr Trebucq, the UN co-ordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, said clouds of ash and smoke were continuing to pour from the volcano every day. “We are expecting that continuous explosions and ash fall will continue over the coming weeks in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, but also in neighbouring islands such as Barbados, which has also been severely affected… as

#IWD 2021  Ann & Dee met with Nina and the team at Walton & Hersham Food bank today to donate 100 Easter Eggs funding by the club. Another donation! Alexis was simply delighted to #ChooseToChallenge as a Soroptimist in presenting a cheque for £600 to North Surrey Domestic Abuse this month. Lock downs have enabled the Club to collect over £3000 to support local and international projects. Instead of ‘meeting and eating’ to enable progress we’ve zoomed in since April 2020 and instead contributed the cost of supper to a fund. Our 2021 endeavours We chose to challenge the UK government and to work alongside UK PAC to lobby the Secretary of State, Lords, MPs and men & women to enable massive and important changes to the UK Domestic Abuse Bill.   We provided funds for vouchers and food to two foodbanks, an incredible sum
