When the Bristol Club started in 1920, World War I had recently finished, refugees were moving through Europe and the world was still coping with the effect of the ‘flu pandemic. Life was hard and many people found it difficult to make ends meet. It may sound a little familiar. We need to find new solutions to problems old and new, and to support communities here in Bristol and abroad as our sisters did when we started in 1920. Members of SI Bristol aim to make a difference, especially to the lives of women and girls.
The work that we do contributes to the consultative status that the international organisation has at the United Nations. We undertake a wide variety of activities – showcased on the Programme Action pages of our website. For a third year our main focus is on Next Link, Bristol based domestic abuse and mental health services. We hope to raise money for them, raise awareness of issues, and help with some of their activities. We often continue to stay in touch with charities that we have worked closely with in the past.
We have over 100 years of practice of doing all this while still having fun. We arrange outings, activities and events with other clubs in the West Country too.
Interested? Why not contact us (see details below) and come to a meeting where you’ll be warmly welcomed. We meet on the 2nd or 4th Monday evening of each month.
