A Warm Welcome to a Representative from WomanKind Bristol

At our Club Meeting on Monday 23rd March, we welcomed a representative from WomanKind Bristol to talk about the charity.

Womankind Bristol is a mental health charity run by women for women.  They help hundreds of women to improve their mental health and wellbeing so they can experience a better quality of life.

The charity has a Helpline, providing a dedicated listening ear and support for women to talk things through, whatever the reason.  When women are going through difficult times, simply feeling heard and understood can make a big difference.   The helpline is there to support any woman or girl aged 16 and above who is in need of a listening ear.

Womankind offers one-to-one Counselling, a confidential space where women of all ages, cultures and backgrounds can feel safe and supported.  Their General Counselling service is for women living in the Bristol area on low incomes or in receipt of state benefits who cannot afford the costs of therapy. There’s also a fee paying general counselling for those who can afford to pay.

Women access this service for many different reasons. Some of these might include: depression, anxiety, relationship problems, abuse of any kind at any time in their lives, bereavement, or low self esteem.

There’s also free and confidential counselling for young women and girls aged 16-18 in the Bristol area affected by domestic abuse. This could be abuse that experienced directly, or it may be abuse that has happened within the family or household.

However, a very important service provided by the charity is an In Person or Remote Befriending service, which is possibly unique.  This befriending service connects women with a trained befriender who will meet with her weekly and support her to improve her mental health and wellbeing.

We were very impressed by the work provided by this small, but very important local charity.
