Members have collected various items of food to support families in need. Feeding Families Collection November 2022 Feeding Families is a North East charity which began in 2017 and now operates 365 days of the year to offer support, hope and security to those experiencing food poverty. The charity’s army of 3000 volunteers help to provide emergency food boxes for 1,000 people per month. The boxes provide food for 2 people for at least 3 days. The number of boxes received by a family depends upon the size of the family The charity works alongside Social Services, family support workers, schools, mental health nurses and GPs to identify those in food poverty. Welcome home boxes are also provided for those leaving hospital in liaison with hospital discharge departments. In 2021 Soroptimist International Durham (SID) gave Christmas food donations from club members to the charity. In
We have raised nearly £700 for our chosen charity Team Kenya. Seven Members of Soroptimist International Durham (SID) set off from Seaham Hall Beach Car Park on Saturday 1st October to walk some or all of the 11 miles of the Durham Heritage Coastal Footpath from Seaham to Crimdon to raise money for Team Kenya. We were joined at the start by Jacky Quincey, a former Trustee and now adviser for Twende Pampja’s Education Programme Area. Team Kenya’s vision and mission is very closely aligned with our Soroptimist vision and mission statements, that of educating girls, empowering women and transforming communities, so with that and the fact that the founder and other trustees are based in the North East, it made sense to Sue and Geraldine, Joint Presidents, this was a charity to support during their Presidential year. We set off in glorious weather passing

Litter Picking – July 2022 Thank you for the good support from Jen, Gerry and Jane M. We certainly did our bit for SIGBIs day of action on Climate Change! Jen single handedly did a lot to protect the River Wear hanging off one off the landing stages dredging lager cans from the water, posterior in the air ! But she vetoed any photos!! We collected a lot of rubbish but worryingly at tent bag and a blanket so folk must be living rough in the more wooded parts. The weather was beautiful but not too hot as we were in the shade and we gained many positive comments from passers by. People definitely appreciated what we were doing. The reward of lunch in the Cloisters was a very enjoyable finale.
SI Durham in partnership with Guides and Brownies, are making waterproof and thermal blankets for the homeless out of clean crisp packets which are covered with large sheets of plastic, donated by clothing shops. This not only provides warm blankets but is also a good example of REUSE, RECYCLE and REDUCE, as less plastic is sent to landfill.
