President’s message

Welcome to the website for Soroptimist International Kings Lynn.

President’s Message

As a Soroptimist who joined at the start of covid, I found it hard to make sense of the structure and routine behind the group, but my fellow sisters made the transition much less stressful. I then found myself accepting the role of President Elect and hey presto, here I am, this year’s President for Kings Lynn, what an honour!

The work of Soroptimists generally, is something that I have always been interested in, lobbying for women’s rights, caring about other women and girls from different communities and ensuring a safer and better life with greater learning opportunities. All this and a new bunch of great women to help and guide you through the planning stages of becoming President as well as ongoing friendship and support.

The last few years have been emotionally very difficult for me, and my fellow club members have been very supportive and without them I don’t think I could have approached this year with such enthusiasm.

I’d like to thank Marion Coleman, as outgoing President, for her work over the past two years, with zoom and face to face meetings, social get togethers and fundraisers and an interesting programme of speakers as well as some new members.

We are planning a varied and interesting programme of speakers, activities and celebrations for 2024/25 to look forward to, and hope to continue to welcome new members.

2025 will be the Club’s 50th anniversary of our Charter and we are already planning some exciting celebrations which include our friendship clubs as well as other ideas, which I hope will assist the next President during her year. The Immediate Past Federation President, Cathy Cotteridge, visited us in April and we are hoping to be able to support her in raising awareness of cervical cancer and add to the strong voice to improve knowledge and make lives safer for women and girls both at home and internationally, all part of the awareness, advocacy and action of Soroptimists through education, empowerment and enablement.

I hope I will live up to expectations, following many inspiring and wonderful past presidents. I am looking forward to my presidency, knowing that I have supportive members helping me.

We welcome potential new members to our club meetings at Marriotts Warehouse – if you would like to find out more, please fill in the contact us form at https://Sigbi.org/kings-lynn/contact-us/     Once you know more about us I am sure you will want to join and we will enjoy meeting you on a non-obligation basis.
