Friendship Weekend 2017
Soroptimist International King’s Lynn, Support International Friendship Weekend 19 – 21 May 2017
A very successful Friendship Weekend was held by the Soroptimist International King’s Lynn club during the weekend of the 19th to 21st May. The weekend was chosen to coincide with the town’s Hanse weekend as a number of the Friendship clubs are situated in Hanse towns.
The members were delighted to welcome members from Soroptimist clubs Amber Valley (Derby), Baden Baden and Lubeck (Germany), Krakow (Poland) and Waterland’s (Netherlands).
The weekend commenced with a welcome buffet at immediate past President Corrine’s house on the Friday evening. The evening gave the visitors and members time to introduce themselves ready for the busy weekend.
The Saturday started with coffee at the Bank House prior to a guided Hanse Town Walk. The club was pleased to welcome the new Mayor Carol Bower for coffee before the walk.
Following coffee we enjoyed an informative and interesting Hanse walking tour of the town. We were delighted that Mayor Carol was able to join us for part of the tour until duties called her away.
A member’s house is situated in the old part of town and we were able to provide lunch there for our guests, who were amazed by the old buildings and history.
The afternoon was a free time, but many of the guest with their hosts visited Hunstanton to see the sea and cliffs.
The evening was spent at the Riverside Restaurant for an excellent meal, with presentations by the visiting clubs of gifts. Sunday morning was spent in the gardens of Houghton Hall before everyone had to make their way home. It was a glorious sunny morning and a great way to complete the weekend. Many new friendships were made during the weekend as well as old friends being able to catch up.
