Soroptimists Volunteer at Foreshore litter pick on River Medway

On Saturday 25 April two Medway and Maidstone Soroptimists Jane and Stella Barnes joined in the Foreshore litter pick organised by Friends of Rochester Churchfields Esplanade (FoRCE).

Sixteen volunteers spent two hours  equipped with litter pickers and plastic sacks  collecting the rubbish we came across.  We filled 24 sacks with the usual discarded items  such as drink cans, beer bottles, plastics, sweet wrappers and crisp bags. In addition we found mattresses, shopping trolleys, tyre, TV, traffic cones, large water carriers and a number of single shoes.

It was pleasing to see the River Medway foreshore looking a lot cleaner and safer for the wildlife after all our efforts.

A good morning’s work  and making a difference.
