A Drop In The Ocean – Incoming President’s Message 2019-20
A drop in the ocean is so small, it surely can’t make an impression, it surely can’t make a difference. But it surely can, as that ocean is made up of many drops of water.
There are many troubles in our world at present.
Today, the threats to our planet are greater than ever, as climate change and environmental issues take their toll. We could feel overwhelmed by the enormity of the troubles and challenges of dealing with those problems, particularly those that threaten our planet.
As Soroptimists we have had to deal with many challenges over the years and we have often found innovative ways to help try and solve them. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
By including the United Nation’s 5Ps (People, Prosperity, Planet, Peace, Partnerships) and the 3Es (Educate, Enable and Empower) and 3As (Awareness, Advocacy and Action) Soroptimists aim to bring about significant improvements for all by 2030., opening up all sorts of opportunities for achievement of aims to help women and girls be the best they can be through inspiring action and transforming lives.
By working together over the next year, I hope that, together, all our drops of water will contribute to achieving those Goals.
In friendship, Margaret Galuszka
