President’s Weekly Message – Week Thirty-Three

“Good Morning Sister Soroptimists,

I am happy to begin this message with congratulations to HILARY CLAVERING – an outstanding Soroptimist – who features in the November #WhoIsShe on the SIGBI website.

Hilary and I first met in 1984 when we became Presidents of our respective clubs – she of SI Sunderland and me of SI Stockton – on -Tees.

We have been good friends ever since. For at least 25 years after our year of office, we met annually with the Past Presidents Group from 18 clubs, with Jean Carter, who had been

DU President that year. This lunch date carried on until there were only about 3 of us left. On a couple of occasions, Hilary hosted us in The Bungalow, and I have to tell you that she makes a delicious Tiramisu!

Hilary is someone I can always go to when I am in need of advice and with her vast knowledge of Soroptimism, she can always be relied upon to provide a solution to any problem.

As you will see from her citation, Hilary has served as Treasurer at every level of our organisation, always improving and innovating and thus leaving the position in a better state than when she started!

I am privileged to call her my friend and she certainly deserves all the accolades she is rightfully receiving at this honour.

Hilary was presented with her certificate in her garden by Sunderland President Rosemary Jenkinson on Wednesday. [2]

I have one displayed and if you do this , would you please let Cris know as her aim is to achieve 100 POPPIES displayed. Her email address is cris.y@virginmedia.com

Writing of New Start Bags, SI Cockermouth will have three starter bags , small, medium and large ready for WOW – Women out West, the project they support.

I apologise that this is a shorter message than usual, I have communication problems and I am grateful to Joan Heckels who is going to circulate my words. No Land Line, No email facility!

To close –

MAYBE THIS YEAR IS NOT THE YEAR TO GET EVERYTHING YOU WANT- BUT THIS IS THE YEAR TO

APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE!

Until next week, Stay Safe, Keep Well.
