Soroptimist International Northern Ireland (SINI)

41st Annual Youth Award Public Speaking Competition

Northern Soroptimists hold an Annual Youth Awards Public Speaking Competition. The competition is open to girls from local schools age 14/15. Its aim is to help girls develop their communication skills and to enhance their future studies and career opportunities.

The topics reflect Soroptimist Key work areas which is known to us as the 5 P’s.

‘People, Planet, Prosperity, Partnership and Peace’

The speech choices for 23/24 competition were as follows:

People

With so much social media why are we all so lonely?

Planet

Can we extinguish Climate Change in the 21st Century?

Prosperity

United Nations predict it will be 300 years to reach gender equality – Seriously!

Partnership

The internet and artificial intelligence have made us a more connected and democratic world.

Peace

Does society need to change how we deal with migration?

Health

In Health “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.

Girls from a total of 45 schools entered the 23/24 competition and speeches covered all six topics. The SINI Regional Public Speaking final was held on 3 February 2024. Twelve girls competed in the final, and they performed to an exceptionally high standard, giving the judges a difficult job on the day.
