What have we been doing?
During the last few years, members have been involved in lots of different activities, supporting various charities and groups through fundraising and in practical ways. We have learned about the many problems and issues facing women and girls in our world. Alongside this we have met with other Soroptimists at Conference and other meetings and events and enjoyed times of fun and friendship with each other.
In 2019 several members attended the SIGBI Annual Conferences in Bournemouth, and some were involved in the organising committee. We were proud to see our member Sue Williams complete her year as Federation President.
In 2020 we ‘attended’ conference in Belfast online, which was a new experience, followed by Llandudno online in 2021. This year, 2022, four members attended the conference in Belfast, the first face to face one since 2019.
We learned about mental health issues and packed shoeboxes for Blythswood Care; walked many miles on the Kiltwalk in support of charities; provided items and funds to the local Foodbank, Women’s Aid and the STAR project.
While we were not able to meet face to face for two years, we still managed to celebrate our 75th birthday, joined in a quiz night, had a Christmas party and have enjoyed several coffee get togethers, all thanks to the wonders of Zoom.
This year we have been back meeting face to face, which took a bit of getting used to but was very welcome.
