United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

25 November

Each year Renfrewshire Council marks the 25 November with a march through the streets of Paisley – Reclaim the Night

16 Days Of Action to Raise Awareness of Violence Against Women

25 November to 10 December
The march is followed by the laying of a wreath in Dunn Square, Paisley to remember those who have lost their lives as a result of domestic violence
Soroptimist International of Paisley have supported the march for a number of years

In 2019, across the Central Belt of Scotland, the Kelpies on the M9, the Clydesdale Horse on the M8, and Hamilton Town House were  floodlight orange at the request of local Soroptimists.  Some significant buildings, such as St Andrews House and The Hydro were also lit at some points during the 16 Days.

In addition members marked the 16 Days of Action by wearing orange to a club meeting and donating ‘orange’ food items which were then given to the Lodging House Mission
