We are back! Ramsbottom Soroptimists had our first face to face meeting in over 16 months this week at Ramsbottom Cricket Club. What a fabulous backdrop whilst we planned events for the coming year. It is our 70th so it is going to be a very special one. Welcome back everyone!

At the end of April Denise Baldwin was installed as our new President for 2021/22. This is a very special year for us as it is our 70th year and we are hoping to have some special events and activities to celebrate. After a very quiet 12 months we are beginning to formulate plans for the next 12 months and hope to return to our favourite events such as the charity lunch at Ramsbottom Cricket Club and the very popular strawberry teas and Christmas treats delivered to local businesses. We are delighted to be back!

Young Achiever Award 2020

Young Achiever Award 2020

Normally at this time of year we would be announcing our Young Achiever of 2020. Because our young people have had very limited opportunities to demonstrate their achievements/talents over the past 12 months we have decided to extend the award for 2019 into 2020. This means that Ella Thomstone, our 2019 award winner, will also be the recipient for 2020. We wish her well and hope that she can soon resume all her activities in Muay Thai boxing.

At the end of President Sue’s year in April 2020 the club decided which charities and organisations should benefit from the money raised during the year. Because of the pandemic we were unable to hold our usual presentation evening but we have made sure the various organisations have received their monies to help them with their invaluable work during these troubled times. The organizations/ charities benefiting to the tune of nearly £3000  are Rossendale Hospice,  Bury Hospice,  Shelterbox,  Ramsbottom Cricket Club Junior Foundation,  FortAlice ( Bury Women’s Aid),  Greenmount Dementia Cafe, S.I.G.B.I.Project in Nepal, Little Voice and a very recent donation to buy material for making scrubs for the NHS.

We always have a collection at Christmas in lieu of sending each other Christmas cards. We raised £200 and decided to use this to buy much needed supplies to help a local charity Bury Homeless Project who do some sterling work in the area. President Sue and President Elect Ann went shopping and this is what we bought! Also pictured is Ann handing over the goods to Suzanne form Bury homeless Project. We also intend helping where we can with a new venture of converting a double decker bus into a shelter for the homeless.
