A message from the President of SI Rossendale 2018/19 and 2019/20, Joan Martin.
Hello! My name is Joan Martin and I’m Rossendale Soroptimist’s outgoing President. I have been President of SI Rossendale for the last two years, 2018/19 and 2019/20.
As I write this, we are all in lockdown and this has given me the opportunity to look back over the last 2 years and reflect on the work our club has done in that time.
As I sit here in isolation, it seems strange remembering the market stalls, fashion shows, friendship evenings, suppers and more that we have held in the last 2 years, but I’m looking forward to repeating it all when we are free to meet again.
While we were socialising, we were also raising funds for some of our favourite good causes; Rossendale Hospice, the women’s refuge, Bacup Family Centre, the M3 project and SafeSpace Rossendale (both supporting homeless young people), to name just a few.
As the lockdown prevented us from holding our AGM in the usual way, we have all got to grips with technology and done it virtually; well done ladies!
In fact, well done for all your efforts over the years of my presidency. I’m proud of you and honoured to know you all. I’m now handing over to Alison Driver as your new President, so you are going to be in good hands.
And to anyone reading this and wondering if it’s worth getting to know us. please do get in touch, we’d love to meet you!
