Welcome from our President 2016-18

Our President in 2016 – 18 is Alison Driver

Alison Driver Headshot

Hello!

I’m absolutely delighted to be the Club President for 2016 – 17. I joined Rossendale Soroptimists in 2012 because I wanted to help make a difference to the lives of women and children in The Valley. Being a member of the Rossendale Club has surpassed my expectations; my friends in the club are all professional women who bring a wealth of experience and passion to help women and children in the work that we do.

I think that Rossendale Soroptimists are one of The Valley’s best kept secrets, it’s certainly the most frequently asked question, “What’s a Soroptimist?”! Have a look round our website, visit our Facebook Page and our Twitter Page to see what we get up to. We give time to help other organisations by sitting on committees, and practical help eg reading for the Talking Newspaper; we raise about £1000 per year to donate to local charities and we raise our own awareness and level of knowledge about topics that impact on women and children, their lives, their health and their education in Rossendale and across the globe.

I was struck recently by a phrase that I came across which, for me, sums up why I’m a Soroptimist, “Strong women stand up for themselves, stronger women stand up for others”.

My aim for my year as President is to raise awareness of Soroptimism in Rossendale and to increase our club membership. It’s simple maths, with more members we can achieve more for women and children in Rossendale. Come and find out more about us, we don’t bite! We meet twice a month at Sykeside Hotel in Haslingden and would love to meet you to share The Valley’s best kept secret with you.

I look forward to meeting you soon.
