UN Orange the world campaign #16DaysofActivism

Soroptimists Orange the World

Soroptimist Runcorn Frodsham & District support the United Nations ‘Orange the World’ Campaign.

Throughout the year the club has held ‘Orange Cafe’s’ on the 25th of each month – “Orange Day”, a day to raise awareness and take action to end violence against women and girls.

The club has also been involved in a Pop Up Anti – slavery Event at Frodsham Methodist Church. It was good to be there and to tell people about our project supporting Causeway and giving Christmas presents to women survivors of trafficking as part of our ‘Operation Christmas Campaign’.  The money raised from the Anti Slavery event event has been donated to the Salvation Army modern slavery survivors support fund.

Why Orange?

As a bright and optimistic colour, orange represents a future free from violence against women and children.

Orange Day calls upon us all to mobilize people and highlight issues relevant to preventing and ending violence against women and children, not only once a year on 25th November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, but every month.

On the 25th day of every month we call on people everywhere to wear the colour orange and take action to end violence against women and children in communities, at home, in public spaces, in schools and workplaces, during conflict and in times of peace.

Throughout #16daysofactivism against gender based violence – 25th November – 10th December, Human Rights Day, the club has been posting ‘Orange Pics’ on Social Media to highlight the issue.

The club has also decorated a Christmas Tree for a Local Church Festival, where a large number of people come through the door,  to raise awareness of these issues.
