16/06/26 Supper Evening, Talk about effects of the cost of living crisis.

Good evening, good food, good company., followed by a very interesting talk by Emma Taylor who detailed the difficulties caused by the cost-of-living crisis and explained help available. .

08/06/26 Litter Picking with SI Hallamshire

 For Environmental Day some members of Si Hallamshire and Si Sheffield together gathered 16 sacks of litter from Winn Gardens’ playground and field.

21/05/26 Daphne represented Si Sheffield at the Master Cutler’s Feast.

19/05/26 Social Meeting with talk on local charity GROW.

After we all had a good meal, Sarah Herrat gave an inspirational talk about GROWuk, a local charity which aids young people (+16-24) with problems to gain employability skills and improve wellbeing. This is achieved by 4 week courses which may include 1 to 1 or group sessions, and interaction with nature through horticulture. 
GROWuk also offer a training course based at a community farm for those wishing become gardeners. It also interacts with many other charities and social bodies to locate the young people who will profit by its actions.

21/04/26 Supper with TWAM talk.

After a good supper, Ian and Sarah Sellars gave a comprehensive talk describing the aims, operations and achievements of TWAM; (Tools with a mission)
Based in Ipswich the Christian charity has several hundred volunteers across the country who collect and renovate unwanted tools. After packaging into complete sets of tools for various trades and home activities they are distributed to individuals in South Africa and here giving them the opportunity develop a livelihood.
Ian and Sarah went home with a boot full of tools and later cleared all the tools from Sally’s mother’s garage.
The charity also welcomes cash and  valuables for sell to finance shipping costs.

14/03/26 Si Sheffield- 98th Charter Lunch

At the 98th Charter Lunch our members enjoyed socialising with attendees from other Soroptimist branches and our guests; the Mayor, the Master and Mistress Cutler, Yorkshire President and Susie Westwood. Thanks too all those who organised and those who stewarded it on the day.

Thanks to Farah and friends for preparing E presents to be delivered to the refuge.

20/01/26 Farah’s Marsala Night

Farah’s supper evening was a resounding success. Over thirty people enjoyed a great evening with good company and outstanding food.

£1195.00 was raised which  will be used to assist a lady desperate for a house. She was married off at an early age to a man both blind and mute. She also has a teenage daughter.

 

24/12/25 Christmas Gifts to Refuges

Members donations of cash or kind were converted by Ann and Eva into beautifully wrapped individual gifts for residents at refuges.

Well Done both!

 

16/12/25 Christmas Supper and Quiz

A cheerful evening at Tapton Hall where we were served with generous portions of a celebratory supper. Next came the amusement – quizzes prepared by Ann and Daphne who also organised the whole event. Special thanks to Jackie for the chocolate favours.

01/12/25 Sheffield Cathedral Christmas Tree Festival

Daphne, Sue and Wendy did a great job decorating our Christmas Tree. An orange theme was chosen as the tree was decorated on the seventh day of the sixteen days of activism against gender-base violence.

This is our second year to donate a tree to the festival where there were over forty trees.

18/11/25 Temple Spa Evening.

Thanks to Judith and Louise from Temple Spa for such a fun evening A raffle raised £76.60 for Mums in Need. 

21/10/25 Drystone Walling

The evening combined a fascinating talk, by Emma Yates, a professional Drystone Waller with a buffet supper as a test alternative to our habitual two course meal.

13/10/25 Winn Gardens Food Bank

Chris organised a successful even, sponsored by George of Hillsborough which raised £390.50 to support Winn Gardens Food Bank.

16/09/25 Club Social -Maori Culture by Chris

Chris gave a fascinating talk describing Maori culture and customs which was illustrated by pictures from their 2023 trip to the Northlands of New Zealand.

12/08/25 Summer Social Outing – Cream Tea

 Several members gathered at The George  Hathersage where they enjoyed a lavish cream tea. 

17/07/25 Hilary’s Strawberry and Cream Tea

A truly enjoyable occasion was had by all attendees, great company, delicious scones, gorgeous jam and juicy strawberries all topped with cream. Thanks and to Hilary and helpers

Naeem Arjun gave a thought-provoking talk which described the experiences he and his family met as Palestinian refugees in Britain.
