Welcome to Soroptimist International of Sheffield

Celebrating 100 Years of Soroptimism 1921-2021

Soroptimist International is a worldwide organisation for women. Our vision is that women and girls will achieve their individual and collective potential, realise. aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong, peaceful communities worldwide.

We aim to raise awareness, act as advocates and take action to improve the advancement of the status of women throughout the world.

In Sheffield, we are actively involved in many local projects. In addition each year a specific charity is chosen by the President which is supported by the club.

SI Sheffield meet monthly for supper and we usually invite a guest speaker; members are encouraged to bring guests. We hold our main monthly Business Meetings, at Tapton Hall.  We also have special Programme Action Meetings.  In addition, we hold a range of special fund raising events in support of our various projects.

In order to foster friendship between our members, we have a very active social calendar.

A message from our 2021 President

It is a great honour to be President of SI Sheffield, a club with a long history of service to the immediate community and to women and girls worldwide.

The past year has challenged us in many different ways –  both our work and the way we meet. BUT the club has responded magnificently. We have learnt to Zoom, we have raised money with online auction and pampering evenings, and we have continued to support women who have suffered violence in practical ways by providing the two refuges we support with donations and by lobbying. We have continued to provide help for Prior Bank Residential Home, which has been of immense help in this time of Covid.

We plan this year to extend our support of Snowdrop a project for women who are moving from being the victims of trafficking to becoming  survivors.  Our Healthy Hampers have been developed in conjunction with the Share Our Skills students from King Edward VII School.

We will continue to advance the club by enjoying each other’s company, by encouraging the members to run events, fund raise and contribute in practical ways to the women’s refuges which we support and to the homeless and other members of the Sheffield community.

Our charity for the year is CEASE (Create Empowerment And Self Efficacy) who are trying to help young people understand what is an abusive relationship and to move away from it.
