The monthly meeting covers all aspects of managing the club and it’s activities.
After a summary of the past month’s activities each committee member or group leader reports on the progress and plans for their individual area. The meeting also acts as a venue for updates from our supported charities, club occasions e.g. presentation of awards to winners of the children’s poster competition, talks by members, welcome of new members etc.
29/04/24 Si Sheffield AGM
The high spot of the AGM was the official presentation of president’s regalia to Sue, followed by the AGM celebration cake, beautifully made by Daphne our retiring Immediate Past President.
The AGM agenda included reports from each activity group and each member of the committee.
February’s Business meeting took on a party atmosphere.
We were delighted that Yorkshire Region President, Susie Westwood, joined us as we celebrated Hilary’s honorary membership award.
Our President Sue presented the award together with flowers and goodies while Daphne’s beautiful cake accompanied our raised glasses of prosecco.

06/11/23 Lady Mayoress presents Orange Poster Design awards
Our November business meeting was enlivened by the presence of Mrs Susan Ross, Lady Mayoress, and winners of the Orange Poster Competition to whom she presented awards and prizes

New Member: We were all also delighted to welcome our new member Lynne.
06/06/23 Iffat’s Story
Iffat told the story of her life since coming to Sheffield. She inaugurated Urdu programmes on local BBC and as a teacher won the right for Asian girls to have further education at Sheffield schools. She has been awarded an MBE and also two awards from local radio for her inspirational programmes.
She described the stages it took to reach these achievements and showed us her awards.

09/05/23 Winn Gardens Update
This evening, Jackie had a special sales table; decorated to mark the Coronation.
After business, a slide presentation was given by Suzanne Morton – update on Winn Gardens. Apart from the Food Bank where Suzanne has a number of helpers, she does the rest mainly by herself.
Some details of the estate.
- 347 households to care for.
- 17 cultures/ languages.
- Food Bank.
- Has a safe house.
- Has a number of asylum seekers
- Slow cooker classes (big success).
- Recycling centre with toys and clothes now used by 600 people.
- Drop in coffee with crafts. (founded by Suzanne)
The Food Bank has had an exponential rise in demand due to –
- Furlough
- Redundancy
- Changes to the benefit system
- Lockdown kids at home
- Rent arrears
- Breakdown in relationships
- Domestic violence
- Mental health issues
06/02/23 The Story behind Mums in Need
Laura Riley (CEO of Mums in Need – MINS one of our President’s charities) described the history of MINS from the touching personal circumstances that led to her recognition of a major problem area without support through setting up MINS, raising funding, acquiring dedicated board members staff and volunteers to it’s current situation – recognised by public bodies needing advice on this field.
The charity has a waiting list of clients so is grateful to all sources of support.
