Regional Burns Supper

Soroptimist International of Stockport hosted a Regional Burns Supper ‘with a twist’ at the Alma Lodge Hotel.

All elements of a Burns Supper were observed, including the Address to a Haggis and the Toast to the Immortal Memory – the ‘twist’ being that many of these traditionally male tasks were performed by ladies. The exception was the Toast to the Lassies which Eric (President Liz’s husband) just about got away with – and which prompted a stirring Response from President Liz herself.

The Pipes and Drums of the Scots Guards Association provided a superb musical interlude; and Keith Rogerson played keyboard to accompany the traditional songs sung by the audience.pipes and drums at regional burns supper

President Liz said, “I must thank my fellow club members in SI Stockport for all their hard work in preparing for the supper. Everyone had a great time and really entered into the spirit of this fine Scottish tradition.”

All proceeds from the evening are destined for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Unit at the Christie Hospital, Manchester.
