Peace, Love and Three Soroptimist Clubs
‘If you can remember the 1960s – you weren’t there’. A roomful of Soroptimists from South Lancashire would totally disagree. The annual social get-together of three sister clubs – Bootle, Crosby and Southport – had a 1960s theme. Region President Margaret Davies (a member of SI Southport) was delighted to join the party. Dress-code was flamboyant; food included vol-au-vents, cheese/pineapple on sticks and trifle; and music was suitably foot-tapping. This year’s hosts – SI Southport – festooned the hall with psychedelic and flower-power decorations. It was a riot of colour. Members presented a ‘playlet’ highlighting the main events of the decade – events that prompted many anecdotes among the guests. They also set tough quizzes to challenge the memory cells, and even organised dancing tuition – the Locomotion.
