June 2011 Business Meeting

Penny Etherington gave a talk on how we – as SIGBI and our own club – can embrace longevity, encourage new members and the need to look to the future both on a club level and across SIGBI. She talked about exploring possible changes in club membership, attitudes to change within clubs and challenged us to see if there are ways that can we embrace new membership.

3 potential new members attended the meeting to observe.

President Libby talked about how she completed the Bodmin Lions walk recently followed by a very successful plant sale which raised £669.  The Tregrehan Garden visit was attended by 22 visitors, with 30 going back to the house for supper.

We have been invited to attend and support a play at the Keay Theatre on Weds 22nd, at 2pm, by the Lions who are supporting St Austell College with this. The cost is £2.

The Torquay lunch will be on the 25th/26th June. If anyone is interested in going along then please let Libby know.

The Tree book has been revitalised. The book was started as a record of the commemorative trees in the area.

If anyone else can write to their MP to support SI Poole’s Purple Teardrop Campaign there is a template letter available.

There is space for a job share for Chair of Programme Action.

The Cinema event film will be decided at the start of that week as the cinema can’t say which films are available until the week of the event. Everyone will be emailed with the selection available and there will be a meal at Frankie and Benny’s before hand.

The Lannion exchange visit took place this weekend with a fully packed event schedule.

The Bee-themed Hospital Fete also took place this weekend raising over £260.

Kay and Barabara will be representing club at the Armed Forces Weekend Services ceremony on the 25th June.
