May is ‘membership month’ for Soroptimists and so we held a new members event at St Austell Sea Cadets Hall (13th May) and invited interested women to contact our membership officer Jane to find out more about the club.
At our 4th May club meeting we were joined by Rachael Reid and Jonathan Grigg, who are Waste and Recycling Community Support Officers from Cornwall Council. They gave a presentation about Recycling. It was heartening to discover just how much of our waste is now recyclable. Of course, this was very close to the King’s coronation and so we had some lovely coronation celebrations, complete with cake and champagne! We shared our cake with STAK St Austell.
Soroptimist Jane gave blood for the 107th time. What an achievement!
Club members had a very enjoyable morning visiting the Hall for Cornwall and experiencing a ‘behind the scenes’ tour. Our thanks to staff at H4C for making us so welcome.
Soroptimist Kay received a card from Soroptimist Federation President Cathy, marking 25 years membership with Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland. Congratulations Kay!
Our club members were ‘invisible guests’ at the Africa Soroptimist Federation Gala in solidarity with their cause to eliminate cervical cancer. We raised 270 pounds for this event.
Soroptimist Diane and the Boobylicious Girls took part in the Moonwalk in London completing 26.2 miles in the dark! This event was to support breast cancer charities.
Crafty Soroptimist club members with knitting, sewing and other craft skills met together to work on three projects supporting Ukraine, our Friendship link club and our own Autumn Fayre. They aim to meet more regularly.
On the 27th May a group of members joined the Flora Dance which was part of the St Austell Pride Celebrations. We were proud to follow St Austell Band and we made the front page of The St Austell Voice!
