January 2024

Members started the new year with a most informative tour behind the scenes at the Hall for Cornwall on Saturday 5th January. It was fascinating to hear about the history of the building and it’s importance to the City of Truro. Our excellent tour guides were full of interesting and humorous tales about the goings on ‘back-stage’ and it was a special treat to be on the stage looking out instead of in the audience looking in!! Our thanks to the staff at @hall_for_cornwall for making us feel so welcome!
On the 17th January we organised a most successful fundraising event.  Members were joined by lots of friends for Bingo! Our experienced bingo caller ‘Norman’, kept us on our toes as we played through our bingo booklets. There were prizes galore as we shouted for lines and ‘full house’. We raised £865.76 for Cornwall Hospice Care. Our thanks to everyone who came along on the evening, donated prizes and helped with the organisation. Special thanks to Norman, a real ‘pro’ who kept us laughing and of course, to St Blazey Football Club. Well done all!!
Some of our newer members met recently at Griggs Restaurant, St. Austell, together with Membership Sub Committee Chair, Jane and Presidents Elect, Kay and Diane to discuss potential events for our newer members to organise in 2024/5. It was a very successful meeting with great ideas put forward which you will all hear about before too long. Nice social and retail therapy opportunity too!
A great turn out for our January Orange Cafe to raise awareness of Violence Against Women and Girls across the World. Thanks to Zillah for the crochet lessons, we’re all going to practise making our flowers. At this cafe we have also started to practise making the Inspire Inclusion position for International Women’s Day in March.
