 Members joined Soroptimists in Plymouth on the 100 women March celebrating the Centenary of some Women receiving the Vote and the achievements of 100 women over those years.Members took part in a Quiz for the water & sanitation charity Dig deep. Unsung Heroine Barbara Hawkins spoke to the club, later that month she was awarded a BEM in the Queen’s Birthday Honours . Ellie Walsh spoke about her work in Nepal helping children get an education Lanjeth Village Hall was the venue for our Spring Fayre raising funds fr Look Good Feel Better.

Early in the month cheques were presented to Sharon Cowburn of The Invictus Trust and Christine Asker of CHICKS. Tim Leslie explained how Kiva loans work. We learnt that The Olive Branch foundation used our donation to purchase school uniforms for 6 kenyan schoolgirls.The sponsored walk finally happened. At the AGM the 31st educational bursary cheque was given to Kiera Bird who is studying Adult Nursing.  Certificates were presented to Jenny and Pam. Jill Barnard was welcomed in to the club as a new member. The sewing group finished off cushions started by Hatjema in Kosovo, they will be sold in tis country and the money sent back to her.Mary drew the winner of Peter Rabbit. Filled shoe boxes were handed over to Carefree.  At the end of the month the New Presidents supper evening took place at Charlestown Church Hall, Liz from Kernow Young

A snow affected month, we had to cancel our March club meeting but our 3rd Unsung Heroine Award evening was brilliant, a hot supper, club speakers, videos, entertainment from the Blue Angels and Lorna Treymane from Heligan Gardens presenting the Awards. Another annual event in our calendar the M&Co Fashion show in Bodmin with Soroptimists friends and family modelling the spring collection raising £500 for the Invictus Trust Charity. Two club members went to Geneva to tour the U N building  with 20 others from the Region. Kath’s  soup lunch raised funds for the Menu Women’s Garden Federation Appeal

Early in the month we had a visit from The 3 schoolgirls who are leaders in the Pondhu School Parliament . The Carol Jennings Memorial Award was announced. The Barn Dance at Charlestown is always a popular event in our calendar, especially this year when over £700 was raised, this funding to be matched by Santander to support our Mid Cornwall Women’s Refuges.  we celebrated out 40th anniversary with a meal &  cake at Fowey Hall Hotel. Federation President Elect Sue Williams was present. We launched our 40 for 40 challenge at this event to support 40 women and girls throughout our 40th year.

A very stylish Black & White Ball was held at The Cornwall, a fundraiser for the Charity this year The Invictus Trust the following day the club was represented at the Remembrance ay Parade. We learnt about the Cornish Mining Heritage Sites. Members helped with the St Austell Torchlight Carnival Parade.  On 25th  the Day to focus on the Elimination  of Violence against Women the club asked the shoppers at Tesco St Austell to donate items for our local Women’s Refuges.
