The Club raised awareness of the 10th Anniversary of The International Day of Peace on Saturday 22nd September at the Eden Cafe, Members of the public were invited to write a message of Peace on a white paper Peace Dove and hang it on the tree. The Mayor John Keast and his wife wrote their messages, St Mewan Community Choir conducted by Alison Harvey sang beautifully. Donations were collected throughout the day for the International Red Cross and £66.50 was raised. There was also a photographic display of the clubs activities and we were able to talk to townspeople about what Soroptimists are and what we do.

Not the biggest aspidestra in the world but Auctinoneer Daphne coaxed a generous bid for it at the Harvest Auction at the Welcome Inn Par. A total of £370 was raised for the Roll out the Barrel appeal.  The barrel for transporting water elimnates the need for women in developing countries to carry heavy water containers on their heads. Weekend in Cirencester

Seven club members travelled to Cirencester on 7/8/9 September to attend the Friendship Weekend hosted by SI Cirencester. The weekend included a reception on Friday evening at the Bingham Gallery, the Region Annual General Meeting on Saturday followed by a Conference.  The Speaker for the day was Professor Chris Gaskell, his subject The challenge of sustainability food supply and the role of women. The meetings were held in the wonderfully historic surrundings of the Royal Agricultural College. Members from all over the Region were present and many stayed on to join SI Cirencester in Dinner at the College. Federation President Maureen Maguire paid a flying visit, courtesy of a fast car, taking the evening off from a Federation Management Board meeting in London to join us. Dog Show and Fete

Dog Show and Fete

Postponed from July because of a waterlogged field, the Dog Show finally went ahead on Sunday 26th at Tregrehan. In the middle of a poor Bank Holiday for weather we were fortunate to have a few dry hours. Over 30 dogs and owners supported us entering in to the spirit of our ‘fun’ dog show  and £713 was raised for Cystic Fibrosis. Thanks to Radio Cornwall and Tiffany Truscott for the interview with President Libby and Ann Truscott on Friday and all our helpers and supporters.

Many thanks to President Libby and husband Alan for hosting a sunny summer’s evening  barbecue at their home. This has become a very popular event in the club programme and was well  attended.  A wonderful £480 was raised for the education of Sne a young AIDS orpan who lives in Makaputo South Africa. The club has comitted to funding her education.
