Marjorie Wilkinson, (known to us all as Marge),  has been a member of SI Sunderland since 1999 was installed as President on April 12 as for the 2017-18 Presidential Year.  President Marge has already served a term as President in 2007-08 and has been a great background worker for the Club in all the years as a member serving as Club Secretary, Minuting Secretary and also an excellent worker on connected charities of Street Care and Food Banks. She presents the Club year booklet which gives all members vital information on the Club year and all members. Her daughter Claire is also a member of the Club and her sister Edna is also a member of the Club, below are some of the photos taken on the night.  Marge’s Presidential address will be follow later in the month. Over the past 4 years, our Past President, Pat Howe, has worked with the Sunderland Youth Council.  Her relationship and involvement with these young people has been exceptional and Pat has encouraged the Club to endorse a nomination putting them forward for SUNDERLAND YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ AWARDS 2017. Below is the statement that Pat sent for consideration.  It makes very interesting reading and also highlights a lot of of the Club's Programme Action work. Young Achievers' Award 2017 – Service to the Community Group Soroptimist International of Sunderland wish to nominate Sunderland Youth Parliament (SYP) for the Young Achievers' Award 2017.  They make an amazing and outstanding contribution in giving a voice to be heard from young people in the community and in so doing making a difference. Sunderland Soroptimists undertook two sponsored walks on the Roker/Seaburn promenade to help the Sunderland branch of Action for Dementia. Volunteers of Action for Dementia joined the Club members before they started and set them off. They have raised just under £700 and fun was had by all.

Sunderland Soroptimists are meeting with ‘Knitters and Natters’ to make Peace Blankets.  Older members are rekindling lost skills which they have not touched for years.
