Soroptimist International Couva- “End Period Poverty” project
On Wednesday 7th May 2025 , SI Couva piloted its “ End Period Poverty” Project with the Form 1 girls of Holy Faith Convent Couva.
It entailed a presentation by three (3) guest speakers followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony for the unveiling of 3 newly installed “ Pads On Roll” Dispensers for period emergencies.
Our guest speakers were:-
Ms. Leela Ramsingh- LSA Healthcare Services Ltd who gave a riveting presentation on menstrual hygiene and product disposal and installed the “ Pad on the Roll “ dispensers.
Dr. Nadira Rambocas – CrownherTT- she currently leads the Crown Her Initiative project which aims to lobby for the provision of at least one free menstrual product in order alleviate period poverty.
Debra Mc Williams- Wilson – Bryden Pi Ltd Medical representative for CeraVe where she combines her passion for skincare with her commitment to wellness and education.
The girls were gifted with goodie bags from SI Couva and our guest speakers. It was wonderful and engaging session.
Let’s help end the stigma of talking about our periods and take action to end period poverty.

Our future is in our nation’s school bags and education is a key enabler for success.
Join the Soroptimist International Club of Couva as we lend support to the underprivileged youths of Couva and environs for the new school year.
We are kindly seeking donations of cash or stationery for 100 school bags to be distributed to primary and secondary school students.

SI Couva participates in Menstrual Hygiene Day
On Friday 24th May 2024 , the Soroptimist International Club of Couva was invited to attend a Menstrual Hygiene Workshop hosted by L.S.A Health Services Limited at Preysal Secondary School to commemorate World Menstrual Hygiene Day on the 28th May 2024.
This was a global initiative being staged in Trinidad & Tobago in conjunction with German based NGO Wash United.
The theme for 2024 is “ Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld”.
The event was a platform to raise awareness and education of menstrual hygiene by bringing together a group of young girls to discuss the importance of menstrual hygiene management . It also advocated for greater access to menstrual hygiene products and facilities.
Let us continue to work together to raise awareness and inspire action towards achieving menstrual equity for all.
SI Couva was well represented at the SI San Fernando’s Endometriosis Challenge 3K Obstacle race on 14-04-24.
SI Couva hosted our International Women’s Day event themed “Inspiring Future Entrepreneurs” at Holy Faith Convent Couva .
It was indeed an honor to have our guests speakers Ms. Deirdre Lee Kin, Dr. Kimberly Abraham and Mrs. Venessa Chattergoon inspire and shed light on the journey to entrepreneurship. The young ladies were definitely captivated by their splendid presentations.
We even discovered a few budding entrepreneurs who found the interactive session truly rewarding. It is our hope that these young ladies will one day join the future sphere of entrepreneurship.

On Sunday 28th January,2024 we celebrated our 2nd Charter Anniversary with a celebratory breakfast and Induction ceremony of 3 new members into our club. Our Induction was officiated by Mrs. Sandra Dieffenthaller of SI San Fernando club.
Our Vision Board Session was hosted by Ms. Lisa Theodore which was truly engaging for our members as it allowed us to explore our Vision for SICouva and ourselves.
We’re rejuvenated for 2024.

SI Couva Members at the Soroptimist International Trinidad and Tobago National Association AGM on the 9th of September 2023., at the Royal Hotel, San Fernando.
SI Couva Personal Care Project
On Friday 18th August, 2023 Soroptimist International Club of Couva President Mrs. Kerryl-Lyn King-Henry and member Ms. Meera Avatar donated 150 packs of sanitary napkins to Ms.Leela Ramsingh , managing director of LSA Health Care Services in aid of their School Drive initiative in September.
This was also done to kick off our Personal Care Project in the vein of EndPeriodPoverty .
Period Poverty is the inability of low-income women and girls to afford menstrual products and also the lack of access to menstrual hygiene education. It also refers to increased economic vulnerability women and girls face due to financial burden posed by menstrual supplies.
SI Couva will advocate to EndPeriodPoverty.

SCHOOL A BAG PROJECT
SI Couva will be assisting the underprivileged youths within the Couva environs with school stationery for 100 school bags. They will also be assisting 10 schools and providing 3 scholarships to students in need.
Donations in cash or stationery were solicited and bins were placed at Mohammed’s Book Store, High Street, San Fernando and Gulf Link Road and JTA Supermarket, Couva.

Soroptimist International Couva
SIGBI Day of action – 15th July 23
SI Couva celebrated SIGBI Day of Action which coincided with United Nations World Youth Skills Day.
The aim of World Youth Skills day is to acknowledge the value of acquiring skills to achieve personal success and realizing their fullest potential.
SI Couva embarked on an interactive session with a group of 11 year old girls at a summer camp with Conflict Guru 868, Ms Ayanna Miguel where they discussed the topic of Conflict Resolution.
Ms. Miguel holds both undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications, namely a Masters in International Management and post graduate diploma in Mediation Studies. She is the lead consultant at eMediate Consulting. She is also a trained mediator with U.W.I and certified with the Mediation Board of Trinidad and Tobago.
The girls were thoroughly engaged as they navigated successfully to resolve challenges, adverse situations and conflicts thereby unlocking their true potential
Training Sessions to Commemorating Membership month.
SI Couva members and prospective members listen attentively to the very informative training session from presenters Sandra Dieffenthaller (Membership and Organizational and Development Officer, SI San Fernando) and Terry Rambharat (Membership Officer SITT National Association)
Membership Month Activities-SI Couva hosted an Afternoon Tea Party
On Sunday 28th May, 2023 SI Couva hosted an Afternoon Tea Party in celebration of Membership Month.
Our guest speaker was Ms. Leela Ramsingh managing director of LSA Healthcare Services Ltd, Eltina’s Distributors Ltd and RamAli Development Conpany Ltd. She’s an advocate for women and girls as it pertains to feminine hygiene products and her company is the brand ambassador for Menstrual Hygiene Day which is associated with WASH United, a German NGO.
It was an afternoon filled with riveting discussions, games, delectable cuisine and an art session of creating fascinators.
A true celebration of sisterhood.

SI Couva participated in the SI Friendship Day hosted by SI San Fernando at La Vega, Gran Couva on the 19th of March, 2023. They were dressed in various combinations of attire representing the sixties which was the theme for the event

Equality is not enough, we do not all start from the same place, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action.
Charter Team of SI San Fernando had a Development Day for SI Couva members.
SI San Fernando was happy to have its first face to face Development Day with our baby club Soroptimist International Club of Couva. It was a very productive and inspiring session of learning and sisterhood in the true spirit of Soroptimism. The session was led by the charter team.
