Soroptimist International Winchester was chartered in 1962, a very different era. The demands on charities and volunteers today have changed in focus and degree.

An increase in awareness of domestic abuse/violence has created new laws and methods of policing. Social media use has also highlighted issues with young girls, body image and self-esteem.

As a club our current work incorporates a range of projects including the Winchester Women’s Refuge, the homeless, textile initiatives, solar lamps and lobbying government on women’s issues. We have also initiated and online bullying project and commenced participation in a domestic violence courts project.

Soroptimists transform the lives of women and girls through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities.

Soroptimist International holds consultative status at the United Nations and is a party to the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

We are pleased to be able to continue our work and invite you to join us in the celebration programme culminating in a weekend of events from 30 September to 2nd October 2022. Funds raised from this weekend event will go to the SIGBI Diamond Education Grant (link)

We are also working with the Blue Diamond Brambridge Garden Centre  who have generously donated yellow and hyacinth bulbs for planting later in the year so we can raise funds by selling them. We also plan to have a club ‘potting day ‘ to ensure the items for sale……
