President’s message

My name is Joyce Handbury and as a founder member and a Past President of the club I am delighted and honoured to represent SI Amber Valley as their President for the forthcoming year 2018 – 2019.

Firstly I would like to sincerely thank our outgoing President of the past two years, Carol Evans, for all her hard work, enthusiasm and dedication to the club.

The club is also extremely proud of member Ruth Dodd as she is the Region President for Soroptimist International Midland East (November 2017- November 2018).

My theme for the year is Educate to Enable and to that end our monthly speakers reflect this (see the Programme 2018-2019) and in addition we have many other events and social activities planned.

The club’s chosen main charity for the year is our local Hospital in Ripley and as well as supporting SI Charities we will continue to support Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline Pinxton and East Derbyshire Link, Mary’s Meals Backpack Project, Jasmina Nursery in the Gambia, Water Aid, local girls going abroad to further their own education and to help with worthwhile causes and we have a good working relationship with Ripley Girl Guides.

We are a small and very friendly club and if you would like to know more about us, please do get in touch. You would be assured of a very warm welcome if you decided to come along to one or two of our meetings before deciding if Soroptimism is for you.
