Members of Soroptimist International, Amber Valley have enjoyed collecting backpacks and contents, and Gill has been delighted to fill them.
Gill, an Essex Girl, had some difficulty comprehending the Scots brogue when she contacted Mary’s Meals H.Q. in Glasgow to arrange collection of the backpacks, but eventually both sides made themselves understood.
The Mary’s Meals Backpack Project was set up to help children from poor families in countries like Liberia and Malawi make the most of their education.

In 2016 Gill sent 110 backpacks for schoolchildren, on behalf of SI Amber Valley, plus 110 from Alfreton Nursery
A further 35 have been sent so far this year.
