Brownies Talent Competition

PROGRAMME ACTION BEST PRACTICE – EXAMPLE

SI Bridgend sponsors this competition to support young girls, encouraging them to develop their talents, take part in a competition and increase their confidence.
The competition enables us to work in partnership with local Girlguiding (creating awareness at Girlguiding Cymru level) and to strengthen our links with the organisation.
We also raise awareness of Soroptimist International  and SI Bridgend in particular.

The project is straightforward. We liaise closely with local Girlguiding and get competition info to Brownie groups at the start of the term (with enough time to include in their programme). Brownie groups organise the heats with Soroptimists as judges. The number of heats depends on numbers participating – we had unit heats, Division heats and a Final in 2025. The Final is jointly organised with Soroptimists supplying trophies, certificates and the shield.

Bridgend Soroptimists provided promotional posters, competition entry forms, competition guidelines and certificates for all participants. All participants earned their Brownie Performing badge (provided by their Brownie group).
Participants in the Grand Final all also received a certificate and small trophy. The winner received the competition shield with their Brownie group name on – they retain this until the next competition (currently every 2 years).

Examples and templates of all competition materials are available on request.
