Simple Cake Decorating Demonstration with Afternoon Tea and Sale of Craft Items in Aid of St Peters’ Hospice

Over 50 people attended a fundraising event for St Peter’s Hospice which was held by Soroptimist International of Bristol on 23rd February 2022.

This was held at Audley Redwood whose friendly staff served tea and delicious cakes to our guests. There was lots of chat as old friends were re-united and new friends made.

After tea Bristol Soroptimist Pauline C delighted the audience with a demonstration of how to cover a cake with shop bought royal icing. We watched in awe as she deftly softened the block of icing, rolled it into a perfect circle and lifted it up to cover the cake. She went on to show us how to make roses and then how to do piping round the edge of the cake. There was a concentrated silence in the room as we watched in awe.  On another table there were some samples of her very advanced skills of complex flower decorations. Her mastery of this craft skill was extraordinary.  There was also a successful raffle and sale of craft items on the day.

We now have figures for the total raised which was an incredible £716 including sale of home-crafted items (£120), raffle (£332) and donations. This is net of expenses to Audley Redwood for their splendid tea and cakes.

President Sue P was delighted with the amount raised. This was added to our other fund raising for St Peter’s during the past year bringing it up to well over £2,000.

Our grateful thanks to Maureen who organised the event and sold so many tickets and, of course, to Pauline C for her excellent demonstration, she made it all look so easy!  Yvonne and Sally did a lovely job of displaying home-crafted items left over from the December Craft Fair and Susan G ensured no one escaped without buying a raffle ticket.

It had been a very enjoyable afternoon on a cold February day!
